LUMBAR CAT CAMEL

How To Perform Lumbar Cat Camels

The Cat Camel (or Cat Cow) exercise is great for gentle spinal mobilization and alleviating tight back muscles. The Lumbar Cat Camel focuses on only the lower back area and helps to engage the deep core muscles and improve overall core strength and hip mobility.

Level/Difficulty: Beginner to Advanced

Muscle Group(s): deep abdominals

Equipment: none

Exercise groups: Lower Body Exercises, Full Body Exercises, Lower Body Exercises, Core Strengthening Exercises, Upper Body Exercises, Posture Strengthening Exercises

Coaching Cues:
On elbows and knees, gently and slowly tuck pelvis back and forth, using the abdominal muscles

Before starting:

Be sure to breathe well throughout, and don’t proceed if you feel sharp pain.

  1. Position yourself on all fours, down on your elbows.

  2. Use your deep core/pelvic floor muscles to help move the pelvis forward and back gently and slowly.

  3. Try not to move the ribcage, and only move the pelvis. You should stop if you feel any pain in the lower back. Repeat for as many reps as desired.
