Effective Stretching & Mobility Exercises For Golf

Here's to the month of May! I know many of us are looking forward to warmth, sun, and birdies (both the chirping and the 'one under par' kind). Let's hang in there by staying active and strong so we are ready to embrace the summer season with open arms.

Speaking of birdies, have you started working on your golf mobility? I know the Ontario government has courses closed for now, but the silver lining is we can work on building great mobility (hips and torso) until then.

Try these active stretches from the last episode of Your Fitness Fix. Feel free to share this newsletter/video with your golf buddy; it will make the playing field a little fairer at least!

These stretches can help promote the rotation that is necessary for sports like golf, tennis, squash and running. Try these throughout the week to feel comfortable for Saturday's tee-off.

Exercise Highlight: Plank To Downward Dog

This is not just a downward dog. This exercise has some surprising benefits:

* improve chest expansion while breathing

* stretch calves, low back, mid-back, & strengthen your core

* improve the quality of your 'reach' e.g. when you reach the top cupboard

Try this plank variation on your own and leave a comment telling me how it went!

May 3 - 9th, 2021 is Mental Health Week

Mental health can also affect your physical health, and either you or someone you know has dealt with significant stress, anxiety, and/or depression lately. Developing healthy coping strategies can take time to master. Be sure to seek advice from a mental health professional if things persist. You can also check out information, articles, and resources below.

Without a doubt, there is a lot going on. Doing your best to stay active during these times is like making regular deposits into your savings account. During those unforeseen, high stress events, you'll need enough in the bank to make a withdrawal. Please let me know if I can help you find ways to 'top up your account'.
