How To Manage Your Office Related Neck Pain

Happy 1Yr “Working Remotely” Anniversary! How’s Your Posture These Days?

It’s a very valid and relevant question! The pandemic has forced millions to work from home with faulty ergonomic conditions, and we are feeling it more than ever before. Unbeknownst to us, our posture would be put to the test and we weren’t ready! Working in a sedentary position for prolonged periods increases our risk for neck pain and/or low back pain (Moretti et al, 2020).

I recently made a video on this that I published to LinkedIn this past week (watch here), and held a Friday Fitness Forum on the topic of posture on my Instagram account @fitfxtraining - you can check out the 30 min clip on YouTube (don’t forget to hit ‘Subscribe’, and feel free to share this post with anyone that you feel may benefit!). I’ll be publishing an episode of “Your Fitness Fix” every week on LinkedIn, so stay tuned for future episodes!

What you can practice while working from home:

Remember that the best posture is the one that moves often. Even if you can’t get to your workout, incorporating any movement at all is much better than none.

Chest Stretch Against The Wall - This stretch may alleviate neck and shoulder pain from working remotely and sedentary behavior

Kneeling Couch Stretch - Use this stretch to alleviate tight hip flexors from sitting and working remotely for long hours

Also, I have mentioned to a few clients that there are two great books on restorative breathing that I highly recommend checking out:

  1. “Breath: The New Science of the Lost Art” - James Nestor

  2. “The Oxygen Advantage” - Patrick McKeown

Book a free 30min online consultation with a Registered Kinesiologist and learn how you can alleviate and improve your low back pain.
